Do You Obey the Movie Rules?

This guest post from Doris Dillon

I often think back to the days when we went to the movies when I was a little girl. Things were tight back then, so going to out to see a show was a treat in itself. What always made it super exciting though was sneaking in our own snacks. My parents were always about following the rules, so I remember a little rush running through me as I’d have a bag full of chocolate chips in one pocket and a can of cherry coke in the other. It made going to the movies such an adventure!

Nowadays, as things are again tight in our economy, I find that I do the same with my children. My husband usually protests (he’s a stickler for rules) but I think it adds just a little more fun to than just going to the movies and eating whatever they have for sale at the concessions. It’s so funny how I can feel that same tingle through me as we “pull a fast one” on the ticket takers. I also love to watch my children smile as they fake cough to mask the sound of their pop opening. But as we leave home to go break the rules, I always remember to set our ADT alarm system , as some people have fun

One of the COOLEST movies!

This is a guest post by Kirk Tomson

There are some actors that fall off the face of the Earth for a while and then make a comeback. But how many of them fall off the face of the Earth, are addicted to drugs, left for dead (literally), and then make a stunning comeback? Err … not many. That said, ‘not many’ is more than none. And that’s a good thing for Robert Downey Jr. While a lot of people just consider him ‘back,’ they don’t focus on what brought him back. What brought him back was Iron Man.

I caught Iron Man on one of the tvbydirect the other night. It was my second viewing of the movie, and if I had to sum it all up in one word, it would be ‘cool.’ I know that sounds simplistic, but it really is the most fitting word. Robert Downey Jr. is genius on and off the screen. In this case, while on the screen, he creates a new weapon. The weapon is a somewhat indestructible soldier. It’s very cool to watch, because while it might sound ridiculous, you know in the back of your mind that this technology is actually possible.

Iron Man travels overseas to save the day, but runs into some trouble. What makes the movie extra entertaining is that Downey Jr. can deliver humor so well in such intense situations. This is so difficult to pull off in an action movie, which is why Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect choice for the role. I honestly don’t think there could have been a better option. The final scene in this movie is intense. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat and grinding your teeth. I know there’s a sequel coming out, and I can only hope that it’s better than most sequels. It will be tough to top the original Iron Man.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights

This is a classic scene from a comedy that never gets old! Robin Hood: Men in Tights is a 1993 comedy of the story of Robin Hood. Produced and directed by Mel Brooks, the film stars Cary Elwes, Richard Lewis, and Dave Chappelle. The film includes frequent comedic references to previous Robin Hood films (most particularly Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, upon which the plot is loosely structured) and real-life subjects.

Spies Like Us

Spies Like Us is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again, and it’s funny every time! There are so many funny scenes in this movie, that it was hard to decide which one to post. Take a few minutes to enjoy this classic scene of Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd cheating on the exam!
