I often think back to the days when we went to the movies when I was a little girl. Things were tight back then, so going to out to see a show was a treat in itself. What always made it super exciting though was sneaking in our own snacks. My parents were always about following the rules, so I remember a little rush running through me as I’d have a bag full of chocolate chips in one pocket and a can of cherry coke in the other. It made going to the movies such an adventure!

Nowadays, as things are again tight in our economy, I find that I do the same with my children. My husband usually protests (he’s a stickler for rules) but I think it adds just a little more fun to than just going to the movies and eating whatever they have for sale at the concessions. It’s so funny how I can feel that same tingle through me as we “pull a fast one” on the ticket takers. I also love to watch my children smile as they fake cough to mask the sound of their pop opening. I’ve always been a dog person. I just think that they have more personalities because they’re more willing to play with you. That also means that they’re more vocal when they’re angry or something’s wrong – which can be pretty annoying sometimes.

I like to watch the “Dog Whisperer” with my Boston terrier Sue and see how Cesar handles and helps out all those dogs. He’s always so attentive to them and I try to be that attentive to Sue but she was having problems with my grandkids when they would come over and visit me. She was just so agressive acting towards them and I started watching the show to get some tips.

A big chunk of my life is spent talking quietly because I work in as a librarian in our local library branch. I love my job and I of course love to read. A lot of times when I shelf recently returned books, I sneak a peek at the book jackets and make mental notes to check them out at a later date.

The other librarians and I switch off desk and shelving duty pretty evenly, although I prefer working the desk to talk to patrons and see what kinds of books they like to read. It’s so great to see how eager some patrons are to read certain books and I also love to ask people their opinions on books they’ve just returned.

However, I noticed recently that I was having trouble hearing patrons in conversation and hearing myself.
