Are You Ready For Some Football

I think I must be the only person in my family who doesn’t plan their weekend around the football games! My sister was a sports writer, so she had to keep up with the games, and she and my dad used to love to enter the weekly newspaper contest to see who would pick the winning teams that week. I hate to sound old, but when I was younger, we didn’t have things like the Sunday Ticket. I can only image what it would have been like around our house if my family would have had even more games to choose from.

We had cable sports channels such as ESPN, but we didn’t have as many channels as they have these days. Of course, those were also the days when we didn’t have 24 hour news channels. It used to be a tradition to eat dinner and then wash the dishes in time to watch the 6 o’clock news. I still don’t think that there’s any reason to have a 24 hour news channel. These channels report on every little thing in order to fill the time. Sometimes it seems like there’s more going on in the world than there used to, but when they have to find something to talk about, they usually talk about things that would have never been reported years ago. These things were still happening, but we just never heard about it.

So, if your family is like mine and loves to get together during football games, check out the Cox cable sports packages that can help you save money while enjoying the game. Snacks and games just seem to go together, so if you get a good deal on your cable package, you’ll have more money to spend on all the food that everyone is going to want while their cheering for their favorite team. You might even have a little left over to help clean the mess that they make in your house!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

I haven’t been to Kauffman Stadium since my kids were born, and I’d love to take them to a Royals baseball game. My oldest daughter found a picture of my husband and me at a game, and she asked where that picture was taken. When I told her that we used to go to the games fairly often, because I worked for a former Royals player, she asked why we’ve never taken them to a game. I guess it seems like we never have time, but it would be fun, and I’d like to make time for fun family days like that. It doesn’t seem like that picture was taken that long ago, but it was about 12 years now. Wow! Where did the time go?

It’s fun to share memories with my kids, and now they’re starting to enjoy some of my favorite old movies. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of my all-time-favorites, and my youngest daughter loves the scene where Ferris sings on the parade float. I love the part where they’re at Wrigley Field watching a ball game while they’re supposed to be at school. I tried to avoid school whenever possible, so I can relate!

Stadium names such as Quicken Loans Arena and Energy Solutions Arena just don’t have that same sentimental sound as the old stadium names, but I guess the experience is what you make of it, and  the name of the building can’t change that. Still, I miss the old days when stadiums were named after great sports figures or had other significant meanings. The names may have changed over time, but the memories of a baseball game are still has meaningful now as they’ve ever been, so take a break and enjoy an afternoon of baseball with friends or family.

Cash Cab: Win Money While Taking a Ride

Cash Cab is a show on the Discovery Channel that gives people the opportunity to win money while being driven to their destination. Unsuspecting people hail a cab assuming they are entering a normal cab. Upon entry, they are greeted by the host (driver), Ben Bailey. He informs them of the rules, and if they agree to play, the game begins as soon as they enter traffic. Easy questions at the beginning are worth $25, and they gradually increase in difficulty. Harder questions are worth $50 and $100. Contestants are given the opportunity to use 2 “shout outs” if they don’t know the answer. They can call a friend or pull over and ask someone on the street. They are allowed to miss two questions, but three strikes and they must get out of the cab at that location.

My question is this: If a stranger approached you and needed your help to win money on a game show, and you knew the correct answer, would you tell them even if there was nothing in it for you? If you were the contestant winning the money, would you offer the stranger a share of your winnings? If you called a friend or family member for help, would you share the money with them? Would you expect them to share it with you if they were the contestant?

Cute Golf Clothing Could Be My Latest Addiction

My husband and I try to wait until our children have gone to bed before we watch movies that might not be appropiate for them. I’m not talking about adult movies, just your basic movies with strong language or romantic scenes that they don’t need to see and we don’t want to have to explain! Somehow, our oldest daughter always manages to get out of bed and walk into the room at the wrong moment and then wonders what they were talking. We usually respond by saying, “Never mind. Now get back to bed!” Twice now, we’ve been watching the movie Caddyshack, and she walks in at the end of the movie when Rodney Dangerfield makes a comment that isn’t for young ears! I love watching this movie because it looks like it was a lot of fun to make, and I’d love to learn to play golf, but not until I can find some cute women’s golf clothing. I refuse to go out in public in some of the clothes I’ve seen that are made for golfing.

Except for a few rounds on the putt putt golf course, I’ve never done any real golfing, so I’ll probably start with a little practice on the driving range. I checked out a few websites and found that golf clothes have come a long way since the Caddyshack days. It would be easy for me to get carried away with all of the women’s golf accessories that they make today. I found gloves, hats, and bags that are so cute that they’ll actually make me want to play just so I can wear them. I think I’ll start simple and buy a few basic necessities, and depending how well I do, I’ll gradually increase my womens golf apparel wardrobe. My theory is that if I feel confident in my appearance, maybe that will have a positive impact on my game. Only time will tell!
