Do You Obey the Movie Rules?

This guest post from Doris Dillon

I often think back to the days when we went to the movies when I was a little girl. Things were tight back then, so going to out to see a show was a treat in itself. What always made it super exciting though was sneaking in our own snacks. My parents were always about following the rules, so I remember a little rush running through me as I’d have a bag full of chocolate chips in one pocket and a can of cherry coke in the other. It made going to the movies such an adventure!

Nowadays, as things are again tight in our economy, I find that I do the same with my children. My husband usually protests (he’s a stickler for rules) but I think it adds just a little more fun to than just going to the movies and eating whatever they have for sale at the concessions. It’s so funny how I can feel that same tingle through me as we “pull a fast one” on the ticket takers. I also love to watch my children smile as they fake cough to mask the sound of their pop opening. But as we leave home to go break the rules, I always remember to set our ADT alarm system , as some people have fun

Favorite Awards Show

Post contributed by Leonard Phelps

And the Award Goes to….!

My favorite Awards Show is The Teen choice Awards; it is a great show. On this show, awards are given for music, movies, actors and television shows. When I watched the show last year, my favorite band members, Jonahs Brothers, hosted the show. Megan Fox and Cameron Diaz are other beautiful celebrities that were there last year. I can’t wait to see who will host the TCAs this year and which stars will make an appearance. Since I’m now living in Indonesia, I watch The Teen choice Awards on free hd satellite tv. I’m just glad to be able to enjoy the show.

My favorite drama movie did not win last year; Twilight won the award for best drama movie. However, my favorite action adventure movie won, it was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. My favorite comedy actor was Zac Efron and he won the teen choice award for best comedy movie actor. My favorite summer movie drama was My Sister’s Keeper and that won the award for best summer movie drama. My choice for best summer movie comedy was Hannah Montana The Movie, but it did not win the choice summer movie comedy award the move Up won that award and my son was very happy about that. My favorite part of the show was when the TV show Gossip Girl won the award for best dramatic TV show. However, with the way the plots are unfolding, I think my choice for favorite drama TV show this year will be Pretty Little Liars.

What I Like About You

Thanks to Austin Camacho

I wish I was Holly in the show What I Like About You. She gets all the cute clothes and all the handsome guys. That’s how you know it’s just a comedy on the WB. From three O’clock to four O’clock every day you can find me on the couch using satellite tv in Colorado to tune into my favorite comedy. I watch in envy as Holly is put through one situation after the next and everything seems to work out just fine and it’s always hilarious.

I would even settle for being Val, Holly’s older sister. She has excellent clothes also and handsome guys which are a little too old for me as I’m closer to Holly’s age. She has a wacky best friend Lauren just like I do, and she seems to have a ton of guy trouble just like me.

I like the show because it’s a much funnier version of my life. I go through basically the same problems except the guys aren’t as muscular and the scenes aren’t as dramatic. The show is popular in general because it is very easy to relate to. There’s a character on the show that reminds me of at least someone I know. What I Like About You and that it’s a lot like me.

Does Celebrity Behavior Have an Effect on the Success of a Movie?

It’s a quiet night at work, and Maverick is just starting on TV. Mel Gibson has been making headlines for his behavior, and it seems to be getting worse as the days go by. I don’t know him, so I don’t want to make any false claims about what goes on in his life, but it’s not looking good from what I’ve read. You can’t always believe the press, because they love to make a story as dramatic as possible for shock value, but when there’s evidence of his behavior on tape, that’s hard to dispute.

I’ve read comments from people on Facebook who claim that they’re never going to watch another Mel Gibson movie again. It’s hard not to think about what goes on in a celebrity’s life when you’re watching a movie, but there are other great actors in his movies, so why abandon a movie all together just because of the actions of one person? I still enjoy Maverick, and I own the dvd, so I’ll still watch it from time to time. I also like The Patriot and Braveheart, but there not my favorite movies, and I only watch them if they’re on TV.

His current situation is great for a headline news story, but this is his life, and it’s sad for everyone involved. I hope for his sake, and the sake of his ex-girlfriend and daughter, that he’ll get the help he needs to improve his circumstances. I’ll continue to watch his movies, and hope for the best for him and his family.

How TV Has Changed for Kids

Here’s a guest post written by Jordan Sullivan.

When I was a small child in the 1980s, Saturday morning was it for television. My brother and I would wake up early and watch cartoons all morning while mom and dad slept in. As I got older, cable television was born and my best friend’s family subscribed. I loved spending the night at her house so I could watch Nickelodeon and MTV.

When my now 15-year-old step-daughter was younger, Cartoon Network was on the tv more than anything else. At birthday and Christmas times, she would beg for all the cool toys she saw on the commercials, only to be disappointed when she saw the actual product. She could just never quite get them to do the cool things that the kids on the commercials did.

I now have a baby boy who is getting more and more interested in tv. If he hears certain theme songs, his head pops up and his eyes are drawn to the tv. When he sees us pick up the tv remote, he immediately looks at the tv to see what is going to happen. He loves the songs on Dora, Diego, and Yo Gabba Gabba.

I recently found NickJr, and it has become my favorite channel for my son. There are no product commercials! In between shows, a goofy cartoon moose teaches child viewers about numbers and differences between pictures. I love that my little guy can watch quality programming without commercials with our Clear Direct bundle! Kid’s tv has sure come a long way.

One of the COOLEST movies!

This is a guest post by Kirk Tomson

There are some actors that fall off the face of the Earth for a while and then make a comeback. But how many of them fall off the face of the Earth, are addicted to drugs, left for dead (literally), and then make a stunning comeback? Err … not many. That said, ‘not many’ is more than none. And that’s a good thing for Robert Downey Jr. While a lot of people just consider him ‘back,’ they don’t focus on what brought him back. What brought him back was Iron Man.

I caught Iron Man on one of the tvbydirect the other night. It was my second viewing of the movie, and if I had to sum it all up in one word, it would be ‘cool.’ I know that sounds simplistic, but it really is the most fitting word. Robert Downey Jr. is genius on and off the screen. In this case, while on the screen, he creates a new weapon. The weapon is a somewhat indestructible soldier. It’s very cool to watch, because while it might sound ridiculous, you know in the back of your mind that this technology is actually possible.

Iron Man travels overseas to save the day, but runs into some trouble. What makes the movie extra entertaining is that Downey Jr. can deliver humor so well in such intense situations. This is so difficult to pull off in an action movie, which is why Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect choice for the role. I honestly don’t think there could have been a better option. The final scene in this movie is intense. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat and grinding your teeth. I know there’s a sequel coming out, and I can only hope that it’s better than most sequels. It will be tough to top the original Iron Man.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights

This is a classic scene from a comedy that never gets old! Robin Hood: Men in Tights is a 1993 comedy of the story of Robin Hood. Produced and directed by Mel Brooks, the film stars Cary Elwes, Richard Lewis, and Dave Chappelle. The film includes frequent comedic references to previous Robin Hood films (most particularly Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, upon which the plot is loosely structured) and real-life subjects.
